McG to Direct Ouija

McG photoEven if Christopher Nolan or Tim Burton were at the helm, I'm still not sure I'd be interested in seeing a movie based on Hasbro's Ouija boards. Those things really freak me out, so sitting through two hours of a film inspired by the spooky board game isn't my idea of a fun time at the movies. That said, the film's moving forward at Universal Pictures with McG (Terminator Salvation) in negotiations to direct, so says The Hollywood Reporter.

Ouija is said to be a supernatural adventure from writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (the Tron: Legacy screenwriting team). Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes and Hasbro's Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir are producing. Pierre Morel had been in talks to direct but left the project back in November over creative differences. The project's also gone through a few screenwriters before reaching the hands of Kitsis and Horowitz.

Filming is expected to begin this summer with Universal eyeing a November 2012 release. The studio's also working on another Hasbro toy-inspired film, Battleship starring Alexander Skarsgard and Taylor Kitsch, set for release in May 2012. The third Hasbro film in the works, Stretch Armstrong with Taylor Lautner, has been delayed until 2013.
